What is a Dota 2 match?

A Dota 2 match is a contest between two teams of five players, Radiant and Dire, on a single map. In professional play a series consists of several games (Bo1, Bo2, Bo3 or Bo5); the team with more game wins takes the series.

How long does a Dota 2 game last?

Around 35–45 minutes on average at the professional level, including a draft phase of roughly 10 minutes. Long games can exceed 60 minutes. A Bo3 series usually takes 2–3 hours and a Bo5 up to 5 hours.

What is the win condition in Dota 2?

The first team to destroy the enemy Ancient wins the game. Reaching the Ancient requires destroying the towers and barracks on at least one lane. A team can also win if the opponent calls GG (surrenders).

How many players are on each team?

Each team has five players, usually referred to by position 1 to 5: Carry (1), Mid (2), Offlane (3), Support 4 and Support 5. Teams may also have a coach and substitutes.

What do Bo1, Bo2, Bo3 and Bo5 mean?

Bo stands for "best of", the maximum number of games in a series. A Bo2 can end 1–1 and is common in group stages; in a Bo3 the first team to two wins takes the series; a Bo5 requires three wins and is typical for finals.
