How are the Dota 2 rankings calculated?
Every team has an Elo rating, updated after each match by GAMES won (a 2–0 earns more than a 2–1); beating a stronger opponent earns more, losing to a weaker one costs more. The series win probability is derived from the per-game probability for the Bo1/Bo3/Bo5 format, so the same rating gap favours the stronger team more in a Bo5 than in a Bo1.
For League of Legends, each regional league also has its own level, learned from matches between leagues (EMEA Masters, MSI, Worlds…): new teams start from their league's level and adjust faster over their first 10 matches, so a team crushing weak opponents in a weak league is not pushed up to the level of teams in strong leagues. Second-tier leagues (LCK CL, LDL, LFL…) follow the level of the top league in their region (LCK, LPL, LEC…), since second-tier teams from different regions rarely meet. For Dota 2, teams start from the tier of their events. Long-inactive teams drift back toward their starting level since rosters usually change; wins by forfeit do not count. Rosters are tracked per event: when a team changes players, its rating is pulled partway toward the ratings the new players bring from their previous teams.
The ▲▼ arrow next to a rating is its change over the last 30 days. The table is recalculated three times a day from every result since 2024 (over 24,000 matches). Parameters were chosen by replaying the full history and scoring the pre-match predictions: for League of Legends the current version picked 69.4% of the last 1,345 matches correctly (the old one 66.6%).
